According to the American Psychological Association, about 40 to 50 percent of marriages end in divorce. Relationships are challenging and we often want to give up on them. Christians have a higher divorce rate than the general population. Temptation is everywhere (especially in the church) and society always has us looking for the next best thing. We may want a more attractive spouse, a wealthier spouse or a more understanding spouse. Cliché as it may be, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. There are risks that may come along with that more attractive, wealthier and more compassionate spouse.
Some risks are too risky such as contracting a disease, destroying family legacy/integrity and hurting children in the process. Besides, how do you know that you will be happy with someone else? Second or third marriages have higher divorce rates than first marriages. Sooner or later, you will be looking for someone else who is more attractive, someone who is wealthier or someone who is a little more compassionate. The nine things stem from a Divine Word from God. They are nine things you should do with your spouse to strengthen your relationship. Just maybe, whatever you THOUGHT you were lacking will be fulfilled as and after you do them. Instead of searching for something or someone else, appreciate what you have right at home. Give these nine things a try!
